Day of the Imprisoned Writer

POETIKI – The Office of the Vice-President of PEN International, and of The Editorial Board of Diversity-PEN International’s Collection of Poetry, Fiction and Essays, for the 9th time, observes the Day of the Imprisoned Writer on November 15, at the Cinematheque of Macedonia, starting at 1:00 pm.
On this special international event speeches written by Aleksandar Stanojkov, Nikolina Stojanova, Kostadin Geroski, Daniel Kareski, Doan Sulejmanoski and Mane Manusev, and selected through a Call for Papers/Speeches: “Free the Word”, will be publicly presented by the authors themselves. The event will be opened by the welcoming speeches of Risto Lazarov, the President of the Macedonian PEN Centre, and the poet Gjoko Zdraveski, while the poets Vladimir Martinovski, Xhabir Deralla and Ivan Sopov will read a selection of their own poems. The event will be moderated by Bela Gligorova and will be officially closed by academician Katica Kulavkova, Vice-President of PEN International and Editor in Chief of Diversity-PEN International Collection of Poetry, Fiction and Essays.
With this event The Office of the Vice-President of PEN International and of the Editorial Board of Diversity is once again voicing the need to strengthen and support the freedom of expression and speech; this time, though focused efforts made at freeing the creative and literary word, which can in turn help create worlds, cross boundaries and bring nations and people closer together. Through this special event, a follow-up to the previously mentioned Call for Papers/Speeches, the sub-committee of the Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee, Diversity and the Office of the Vice-President of PEN International- Poetiki, is officially joining the global activities of Free the Word Festival.
